Max Is Well, But We’re All Running on Empty

A lot happened last night after our previous entry. The skin tone of just above Max’s upper lip and below his lower lip turned sort of blue. We were on the phone with his pediatrician last night to ask her advice for what to do with our aching little boy. She advised us in very certain and clear terms to take Max to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite. But when we told her about Max’s loss of color, she advised us to hang up and dial 911. So we did.

The ambulance came and checked Max’s vitals, and he was doing well. His oxygen level was 98 percent, and his little heart was beating at 132 beats per minute. The paramedics advised us to take the little fellow to Children’s at Scottish Rite, so we did, and we’re very glad we did. Mimi went with us and Grandpa stayed behind in case we needed him to bring us something at the hospital.

They gave Max Lortab for pain and later gave him 1mg of morphine with Versed intravenously before casting his arm and pressing his radius and ulna back into position.

Max was in a good bit of pain until the intravenous drugs took effect, but afterwards he was docile and sleepy. We stopped at a twenty-four-hour pharmacy to get his pain medication filled, and it was about 4:00 am when we got home.

Poor Becky was back up at 6:30 to go to school, and she didn’t come home until 4:30 this afternoon. I got to sleep two hours later, and our little buddy slept until 9:30 this morning.

Mimi came down to sit with the little fellow while Grandpa and I returned the inflatable jumper and slide back to the place from where we rented it. Max went home with Mimi and Grandpa when we returned because our housekeepers were going to be busy cleaning today.

Baybay didn’t rest well at Mimi and Grandpa’s. Becky brought him home, and she and I lay down with him, but he was restless and uncomfortable. After half an hour of trying to make him comfortable in our bed, we finally gave up and put him in his bassinet, which is where he is right now.

Mimi, Becky, Max, Grandpa, and I are all tired, but most especially Becky. It had to have been tough on her to slug through a ten-hour workday after just two hours of sleep.

Hopefully, we’ll all get more than that tonight.

Max Broke His Arm

Our little buddy broke his right forearm this afternoon while sliding down the inflatable jumper and slide we rented for his birthday on Friday.

He was given a shot for pain, but he’s still hurting. He keeps wiggling in our bed, saying, “Daaaa…,” which is his way of calling to me for help.

I can’t help him, so I don’t know how we’re going to get through the night. Our next step is to contact an orthopedist to get his arm set in a real cast.

Well, jaddie.com is finally powered by WordPress, a dedicated blogging and content management system.

I should have made the move from static HTML to a database-driven platform such as WordPress a few years ago, but I’m a technophile who’s resistant to change.

The site is barebones now, but it’ll grow in the weeks ahead.

Previous content is here.

More later tonight.
