Max and Grandpa hung out this morning. They had a great time. They played outside on the “good track,” and Max loved every minute of it! Grandpa even kept Max so that Mimi, Jaddie, and I could have lunch at The Olive Garden. When we got back Max was bathed and ready to go to the park.

Jaddie and I took Max to play on this beautiful day at Bogan Park. There were a lot of kids and parents with the same idea. They park was full. While there Max tried the monkey bars. He gave it a good try. We took a lot of pictures, and we hope to have some pictures to share soon.

When we got home Max had lunch and then took his nap. While Max napped Mimi and I went to the movies to see This Means War. It was a great movie. Mimi and I laughed a lot!

Max was ready to play trains when he got up. We’ve played with his TrackMaster and wooden railways tonight. We’re glad lil’ fellow is home to snuggle with us.

Baybay had a big day. He slept until 8:20 this morning, which is when I couldn’t take the pain of laying still any longer and got out of bed. My movement caused him to wake up. He was piled on top of me as if he’d tackled me in football.

We watched a video on our media player from bed and then came downstairs to run some trains. Grandpa brought us breakfast from Bojangles, but Baybay wouldn’t stop playing to eat. Later in the morning the Baybay Man got an attitude and had to serve half a dozen timeouts. When I returned from the bathroom he’d taken about half of his HO track apart. Luckily, it’s easy to fix and tonight I’ve been soldering those joints back together so it’ll be more difficult for him to take apart in the future.

We went to Bogan Park shortly before noon and had a fantastic time. We took a beach ball and a frisbee and played on two playgrounds at the park. We stayed about an hour-and-a-half and would’ve stayed longer if it hadn’t been so cold and cloudy.

From the park we went to Granny’s for lunch. She had some grilled cheeses waiting for us. Baybay was so sweet to her. All on his own he told her that he loved her and gave her a big hug and kiss. I’m not kidding.

He stayed with Granny and I came home. Mama picked him up after school, and she said Baybay’s sweetness continued in my absence. He was saying, “Please” and “Thank you” and doing things for Granny. On their way home Max said he wanted to go to Mimi and Grandpa’s to play with his trains, so Mama took him there.

She taught at other schools after school for three days this week, so she’s been really busy. She was exhausted when she got home and took a two-hour nap. She and I went to IHOP for dinner and then to Home Depot for a soldering iron and solder. Boy, my life has changed. Five years ago I would’ve laughed at anyone who said I’d be soldering anything.

We stopped by Mimi and Grandpa’s to pick up our favorite little buddy, and when we got home they went upstairs to get their baths. They’re in bed now watching Barney and I’m about to join them. I had a whole lot more to write tonight but I’m out of time.

The three of us are looking forward to going to Delaney’s third birthday party tomorrow. Delaney and her parents, Jon and Lauren, are our friends and neighbors.

Fun with Trains, Grandpa Serves Timeout

Today we had our ups and downs. The trains ended up in timeout, but we had a good time playing with them until the little fellow got tired and hungry and melted down.

Grandpa brought us breakfast this morning and then returned to install some hooks for us to store our water hose outside. The hooks had been were installed but weren’t being used at his house and had rusted over the years. Grandpa got rid of the rust and painted the hooks black and now they look great.

Grandpa had to serve a timeout today, too. When he brought us breakfast he discovered that Baybay’s Bo biscuit was missing from the bag. He got angry and said the word stupid, which is first and only word Baybay has been warned not to use. Grandpa’s use of the word didn’t escape Baybay’s notice. As soon as Sheriff Baybay heard Grandpa utter the word, he exclaimed, “Ooooo, he say dat werd!” Poor Grandpa had to serve his first timeout in sixty-four years.

Today was Baybay’s first day with his new HO-scale, Digital Command Control-equipped Diesel and Spencer engines. Diesel and Spencer are both Thomas & Friends characters. We bought these engines a few weeks ago and waited for our local train store to receive and install DCC decoders into them. With DCC the little fellow can have multiple engines running around the same track and maintain independent control over each. Separate remote controls (called throttles) are available that will let us operate trains together on the same track. One person can control one train and another person can control another. Train speeds, sounds, coupling, braking, lights, and track switches may be controlled using DCC.

Max was so excited. Actually, so was I. I’ve never set up a DCC-operated train set before and therefore have limited knowledge of it and was elated to see that everything worked right on the first try. Max was overwhelmed. He danced around his little four-feet-by-four-feet layout until he was breathless and talking a mile a minute. He put his little cheek down on his train table and studied Diesel and Spencer as they chuffed along the tracks.

He was having such a good time. I tried to get him to stop and eat some lunch but he wouldn’t. I finally persuaded him to get into his highchair, which I put beside his train table, and to have a few Cheez-Its and Cheetos. As soon as I went to the bathroom, though, he got out of his highchair all on his own and was running around his train table with his chin hovering less than an inch above the tracks.

He wanted me to swap Diesel’s freight cars with Spencer’s passenger coaches (or maybe it was the other way around), but he couldn’t figure out how to tell me what he wanted. He melted down with arms a-flailing, which lead to a timeout, which led to his hitting me, which lead to his trains’ being in timeout for the rest of the day.

We went upstairs and watched a Fireman Sam video so we could settle down for his nap. Boy, was I ever glad to put him into his bed so I could finally get some peace and quiet.

An hour later Baybay awoke with a number-two. I ran out of wipes while cleaning him up, and I left him on his changing table with firm instructions not to move while I fetched more wipes. What do you think he did?

Of course he moved and soiled his pajamas and changing table. I finished cleaning him up the best I could and then put him into the shower and washed him with Dial soap. He was in a great mood and seemed to accept that he couldn’t play with his trains and to understand why they were in timeout.

Finally, Mama got home and took over for me. She took him to Bogan Park and then they went to Mimi and Grandpa’s. Baybay’s spending the night with Mimi and Grandpa tonight, and, believe it or not, I already miss him.

He melted down last night at bedtime and scratched and hit me. After being warned, he continued his aggressive behavior and Mama and I sent him to his bed, which Mama rolled into his room. That would’ve been the first time he’s slept in his room in a couple of years, but I felt like I was punishing myself, too, so we got up and Mama picked him up from his bed and brought him back to our bed. Next time we send him to his room for the night, that’s where he’ll stay, but since it was his first time being sent to his room, we let him stay in there for only about fifteen to twenty minutes.

So Mama and I are off to bed to watch All in the Family and look forward to getting our Baybay back in the morning.

Believe it or not, Max was up at midnight last night, and we all welcomed in the new year. With his being awake at such a late hour for a three-year-old, he slept until 9:30 this morning. Jaddie and I were so thankful for that. When we got up we headed to Granny’s for breakfast. Max was excited about going to Granny’s. He didn’t eat a whole lot, but had fun while he was there. When we left Granny’s we went Bogan Park to ride his “pie-cycle” (tricycle). On our way home from the park, Mimi called and asked if we’d stop by for a visit, so we did. Max didn’t want to leave, so he stayed with Mimi and Grandpa all afternoon. He’s even spending the night with them. Jaddie and I have been getting a lot of chores done, but we miss our lil’ buddy.

How did we spend the last day of 2011? Max and Grandpa went to Bojangles and brought us breakfast this morning. When Max came home he wanted to play with his trains, so we did for a while. Then we headed to Granny’s for a while. She kept Max while I ran an errand. When I came back we ate lunch together.

After leaving Granny’s, we went to Bogan Park. We had a lot of fun. The park was full of kids and Max enjoyed playing with them. Max slid, played ball, and built sandcastles. While climbing a rock wall at the park, Max said, “It’s like Stone Mountain.” I thought that was super-cute! We had so much fun and plan to return soon, maybe even tomorrow.

Max took his nap when he got home. He was excited because he knew we were going to go to a party at Mimi and Grandpa’s tonight, so he didn’t nap for long. When he got up he got ready and left for the party.

Max was a very good boy at the party tonight. He enjoyed wearing party hats and blowing horns. He also played with one of his trains, lead by engine Henry. He used salt and said, “It’s snowing!” It made a little mess but very creative.

When Max and Daddy left the party early, they came home and played with Max’s trains. Then they watched Hero of the Rails.

We’re all about to lie down and wait for the new year. 2012 hear we come!

Today was fun. Max slept until about 9:20 this morning. I couldn’t take laying in bed past 8:30 and was able to get up without waking my favorite little fellow. That gave me nearly an hour of time to wake up and check tech news.

When Max awoke I met him on our stairs with a bottle of PediaSure. He still had a sleepy face and said, “It’s a beautiful day to go to Granny’s and eat eggs, and go to Monkey Joe’s, and to the park.”

He didn’t want to go back to bed to drink his PediaSure; he wanted to come downstairs to play with his trains. So that’s what he did. I couldn’t even get him to drink his PediaSure until later in the morning.

Mama had wrapped a surprise for her favorite little fellow. It was a Thomas & Friends Christmas set. It featured a motorized Thomas with about five cars, most of which were Christmas themed. Max was so excited about his new Thomas engine and freight cars. We played with those until after lunch—except when we were watching Hero of the Rails. We watched only a little more than half the movie before our little buddy had to get back to his own trains.

I let him choose to go to Catch Air, Monkey Joe’s, or to Bogan Park, and he, just like he indicated last night, chose Bogan. And we had a blast at the park. He got me to slide down some of the slides, climb rocks, and swing him. The highlight of our trip was when he learned how to climb up the tall slide on the lower playground. I’m talking about climbing the slide itself, which is sort of like going backwards on the slide. He had to learn to keep his feet under him. I could help him only so far, and then he had to do it himself for the rest of the way because the slide is a lot taller than I. When he started to get the hang of it, I told him he’d better not toot, and that made him laugh so hard he couldn’t keep his balance and climb. When we got into the van to leave Baybay kept going on about how much fun we had.

From the park we went to Granny’s. She had us each a grilled cheese waiting, but Max wanted to play with his trains at Granny’s instead of eating lunch, so we were on the edge of a meltdown before he decided to get into his highchair and eat.

I left him at Granny’s and Mama picked him up after school. He got to see Aunt Shirley and Uncle Bill. Granny said Max played outside most of the time he was there. He played on her front porch with his toy trucks. Mama said that Max was super-excited to see her when she arrived. He loves his mama and daddy, and we love him.

From Granny’s Max went to Mimi and Grandpa’s, which is where he’s staying tonight. Grandpa worked hard all week on his house in Nashville, Georgia, and Max had no nap today, and since they were both tired, they were almost asleep when Mama phoned them at 7:30 this evening to check on Max.

Mama and I went out for dinner and are about to go to bed and enjoy our favorite television show, All in the Family. I hope Max gets some rest tonight because he has two parties to attend tomorrow. One is his friend Andrew’s birthday party, and the other is our neighborhood’s annual progressive dinner party. I got a lot of great pictures of Max today at the park, and I’m sure I’ll get more tomorrow at the parties. What I don’t know is when I’ll ever get caught up on culling through and editing the images we’ve taken.

Max slept until 8:00 again this morning. When he got up he went walking with Grandpa. He wasn’t able to go to Bojangles for breakfast since we had a 10:00 appointment for family photos.

After dressing in black we headed to Bogan Park for our family photoshoot with Jodi Monaghan. It was so nice having someone other than ourselves in charge of our family photos. Jodi and her mom did an amazing job with us. Max responded very well to their guidance, and we can’t wait to see the images.

After the shoot we let Max play a while on the playground. Then we headed to Granny’s for lunch. Max stayed with her for a little while so our housekeeper could finish. When I picked up Max we went to Walmart, and he was a great shopper.

When we got home Daddy had Max’s goo waiting, and it’s a good thing! Max was super-tired. Max had a nice nap and when he got up he was so excited about going to Mimi and Grandpa’s to watch The Polar Express. While he napped I printed them ticket to ride The Polar Express. Max is really into saying, “Tickets, please.” Then he likes to use a hole punch to punch the tickets just like in the movie.

I just checked in with Mimi to see how Max liked the movie on their home theater system, and they said he loved it. He said many times, “Tickets, please.” Lil’ fellow is missing his mommy, though, and Mommy is missing him!

Lil’ fellow slept until 8:00 this morning. When he got up he and Daddy enjoyed Berenstain Bears’s Christmas Tree. Then they went downstairs for some playtime.

Max went to Granny’s while Daddy went to get his allergy shot. Max and Granny had fun. Max was enjoying ice cream when Jaddie returned to pick him up.

Their next stop was nearby Bogan Park. Even though it was cold and windy they still had a lot of fun. Jaddie said Max enjoyed the seesaw with him. When it was time to go Max didn’t put up a fight. That’s a big deal because Max usually doesn’t want to leave. When Max got in the van he said, “We had fund, Daddy! We had fund!” Jaddie took a lot of great pictures.

When Max got home he had two-and-a-half bottles of PediSure and watched Christmas videos before taking his afternoon nap. Lil’ fellow napped for four hours.

When Max awoke the first place we headed was Mimi and Grandpa’s. He was so excited to see them. It was obvious that he really missed while they were gone. Max is staying with them tonight, so Jaddie and went out to dinner. Tonight we’re going to enjoy watching All in the Family. Tomorrow we’re going to sleep in. It’s nice to do these things, but we miss our Baybay.
