Oh, it was another fun one for Sir Maxcelot today. I left him in the bed this morning and thought I’d slip out of our bedroom and have time for a Pepsi One before the day got underway, but, no, Mr Fancy Pants was on my heels by the time I got to the top of the stairs.

I got him some PediaSure and we watched part of a Fireman Sam video. He asked me to get in bed and watch the video with him. It’s a good thing we had time, because he was adamant about my watching Fireman Sam with him.

I got him dressed and took him to school and he was a happy camper all the way. He had a good day at school, too. As I was waiting in the car riders line Granny called to see if Max wanted to take her to the grocery store. I told her that I’d ask him and I did. The little fellow said he wanted to go with Granny to the grocery store, and I was dialing Granny to tell her we’d take her, Max said he was “so excited” to do so. Oh, that was precious.

Several times today he hugged me said, “I love you, too, Daddy,” even though I hadn’t just told him that I love him. How can you beat that?

But it’s not like he didn’t demand payment once he was sitting atop Granny’s buggy. He asked for and got some mozzarella Cheez-Its and some Fat Boy ice cream sandwiches. Those Fat Boys weren’t on sale, so Max had better thank his lucky stars Granny loves him so much. She doesn’t buy items that aren’t on sale for just anyone. When Granny handed the box of ice cream sandwiches to Max, he said, “That’s what I’ve been looking for!” (He had no idea about any ice cream sandwiches until he saw them in the frozen treats freezer.)

When we got back to Granny’s we had lunch. Granny had bought a sub sandwich for me and chicken tenders for her and Max. We couldn’t get our little buddy to eat much chicken, but he was proud of his new Cheez-Its and potato chips. He got himself a big second helping of chips and spilled a bunch on the floor. I was on my hands and knees picking up the chips when Max climbed up on my back and said, “I on top of you, Daddy!”

After lunch we watched The Night Before Christmas, A Mouse Tale on VHS at Baybay’s request, and then tuned into PBS Kids. I was ready to go home, but Max wasn’t. He said he wanted to stay with Granny, so I left him there and let Mama pick him up after school. By then Grandpa had gotten home from his ten-day trip to South Georgia, and he and Mimi wanted Mama to take Max to them. Max was glad to go, too. Mimi, Grandpa, and Max went to Bogan Park and Max is spending the night with them. Mama and I used the opportunity to go out for a nice dinner. At dinner we talked about what a super-dee-duper kid Max is.

I’m looking forward to picking him up at Mimi and Grandpa’s in the morning.

Today was another busy day in Maxland. It started around 8:00 this morning. That’s when Max got up, but fortunately he wanted to watch The Polar Express! That gave me extra rest time. When we got up it was full blast! We played with trains, cars, and fire trucks. After all of that we went outside so Max could ride his tricycle. Around noon Mimi came by to take her favorite grandson to play at her house. They played at the Wigleys’ pond, too.

Max, Daddy, and I enjoyed celebrating classmate Brian’s birthday party this afternoon. His super-fun party was at Bogan Park. The kids enjoyed playing on the playground, chasing each other, and Super Mario birthday cake. Max was a pretty good boy at the party. He had to serve a few timeouts for minor things. When he arrived he ran to wish Brian happy birthday and to give him a big hug. He also thanked Brian for inviting him to his party as we left. That was so sweet.

When we got home Max took a nap. While he napped I went out and bought us a couple of kites. We may try flying one of them tomorrow.

After Max’s nap he and Daddy put together a small Thomas track that came in the mail today. They had a big time, but it wasn’t long before it went south. We think Max is really tired from all his partying, and it’s not going to help to lose an hour tonight. After dinner we had to put his new track into timeout for the night.

Max and I enjoyed two Dr Seuss books tonight. We also played a few rounds of Creepy Crawlers. Daddy could hear us playing all the way downstairs.

Max can now tell you when his birthday is. He sounds so cute saying “August tentieth.” He’s already getting very excited about his birthday and we have a little of five months to go!

We’re looking forward to shutting down the house and to enjoying some quiet time together tonight as another day comes to a close.

Picture Day, Lots of Train Action, Bogan Park

I was on a roll in getting things done last night and since Baybay wouldn’t lie down until I was finished, we didn’t turn out the lights until about 11:20 pm. Our favorite little fellow was wired up and had a difficult time settling down. I’m sure it was after midnight when he last grabbed my arm for me to massage his back. I figured he’d sleep late this morning and we wouldn’t have time for a video, but I was wrong. He awoke around 7:15 am. He was sleepy but ready to watch a Thomas & Friends video.

It was Picture Day at school today, so I dressed our favorite little fellow in the adorable outfit Mama bought for him last night, and he was a dapper dude.

He didn’t get a sticker for good behavior or pull a veggie for bad behavior today, so I’m not sure how his day at school went. He said he and Hannah were arguing. Max claimed it was his birthday this past weekend, and, Hannah correctly asserted that it was her birthday this weekend. Max even argued with me about it. After a round or two of my reassertion that it was Hannah’s birthday this weekend and that Max’s birthday is August 20, Baybay said, “I don’t want to do that again.” I believe he was referring to arguing with his dear friend.

The little fellow and I played with his trains when we got home from school. We played with his wooden railway and his HO set. He watched Cars 2 during lunch, and afterwards we returned to his train tables for a short while.

He seemed a little tired as we settled down for his nap, We watched the rest of the Thomas video we started this morning and part of a Berenstain Bears video before I put him into his crib for his nap. He slept for a little longer than three hours, and I believe he would’ve slept longer if a number-two hadn’t interrupted him. Mama took him to Bogan Park when he awoke and they had a great time.

Baybay played with his trains before and after dinner tonight, and as I write this he and Mama just finished reading the book Green Eggs & Ham and are about to watch another Thomas video. I’m about to close the lid on the computer and join my little buddy and Mama. Maybe we can shut down the house earlier tonight than we did last night.

Big, Fun Day Ends with Tornado Warnings

Max had a big day. He and Grandpa went to Bojangles for breakfast. Then Mimi and Max went outside and played in the yard. I had to run some errands this morning and early afternoon, so Max stayed with Mimi and Grandpa. They went to Lawrenceville to vote early, and then Mimi and Max headed out to Bogan Park for some outdoor fun.

Mama picked up our favorite little fellow on her way home from school. Mimi was giving Baybay a bath and washing his hair. I bet he’d played in the sand at the park.

The three of us lay down for a nap late this afternoon. I never could get to sleep, so I bailed on the nap, but Mama and Max enjoyed about a two-hour siesta. Then the three of us went to Dave & Busters at Discover Mills, which was Max’s first trip to the huge arcade. We had dinner in the mall and returned to Dave & Busters to burn through a few credits.

When we all got into the van to head home, we were bombarded with texts and phone calls to tell us about the tornado warnings in our area. The warnings have been canceled, but we were scared for a short while. I drove the van at speeds up to eighty-five miles per hour to try to beat the two tornados that were sighted in and around Buford. We thought we weren’t going to make it when a deluge began to pummel the van’s roof, but rolled into our garage and went upstairs to get the latest weather coverage from TV and the internet.

Now we’re about to turn in for the night. Max has another big day planned tomorrow. He’s going to classmate Meghan’s birthday party at Catch Air, and he’s going to get to see a real owl up close.

Max and Grandpa hung out this morning. They had a great time. They played outside on the “good track,” and Max loved every minute of it! Grandpa even kept Max so that Mimi, Jaddie, and I could have lunch at The Olive Garden. When we got back Max was bathed and ready to go to the park.

Jaddie and I took Max to play on this beautiful day at Bogan Park. There were a lot of kids and parents with the same idea. They park was full. While there Max tried the monkey bars. He gave it a good try. We took a lot of pictures, and we hope to have some pictures to share soon.

When we got home Max had lunch and then took his nap. While Max napped Mimi and I went to the movies to see This Means War. It was a great movie. Mimi and I laughed a lot!

Max was ready to play trains when he got up. We’ve played with his TrackMaster and wooden railways tonight. We’re glad lil’ fellow is home to snuggle with us.

Baybay had a big day. He slept until 8:20 this morning, which is when I couldn’t take the pain of laying still any longer and got out of bed. My movement caused him to wake up. He was piled on top of me as if he’d tackled me in football.

We watched a video on our media player from bed and then came downstairs to run some trains. Grandpa brought us breakfast from Bojangles, but Baybay wouldn’t stop playing to eat. Later in the morning the Baybay Man got an attitude and had to serve half a dozen timeouts. When I returned from the bathroom he’d taken about half of his HO track apart. Luckily, it’s easy to fix and tonight I’ve been soldering those joints back together so it’ll be more difficult for him to take apart in the future.

We went to Bogan Park shortly before noon and had a fantastic time. We took a beach ball and a frisbee and played on two playgrounds at the park. We stayed about an hour-and-a-half and would’ve stayed longer if it hadn’t been so cold and cloudy.

From the park we went to Granny’s for lunch. She had some grilled cheeses waiting for us. Baybay was so sweet to her. All on his own he told her that he loved her and gave her a big hug and kiss. I’m not kidding.

He stayed with Granny and I came home. Mama picked him up after school, and she said Baybay’s sweetness continued in my absence. He was saying, “Please” and “Thank you” and doing things for Granny. On their way home Max said he wanted to go to Mimi and Grandpa’s to play with his trains, so Mama took him there.

She taught at other schools after school for three days this week, so she’s been really busy. She was exhausted when she got home and took a two-hour nap. She and I went to IHOP for dinner and then to Home Depot for a soldering iron and solder. Boy, my life has changed. Five years ago I would’ve laughed at anyone who said I’d be soldering anything.

We stopped by Mimi and Grandpa’s to pick up our favorite little buddy, and when we got home they went upstairs to get their baths. They’re in bed now watching Barney and I’m about to join them. I had a whole lot more to write tonight but I’m out of time.

The three of us are looking forward to going to Delaney’s third birthday party tomorrow. Delaney and her parents, Jon and Lauren, are our friends and neighbors.

Fun with Trains, Grandpa Serves Timeout

Today we had our ups and downs. The trains ended up in timeout, but we had a good time playing with them until the little fellow got tired and hungry and melted down.

Grandpa brought us breakfast this morning and then returned to install some hooks for us to store our water hose outside. The hooks had been were installed but weren’t being used at his house and had rusted over the years. Grandpa got rid of the rust and painted the hooks black and now they look great.

Grandpa had to serve a timeout today, too. When he brought us breakfast he discovered that Baybay’s Bo biscuit was missing from the bag. He got angry and said the word stupid, which is first and only word Baybay has been warned not to use. Grandpa’s use of the word didn’t escape Baybay’s notice. As soon as Sheriff Baybay heard Grandpa utter the word, he exclaimed, “Ooooo, he say dat werd!” Poor Grandpa had to serve his first timeout in sixty-four years.

Today was Baybay’s first day with his new HO-scale, Digital Command Control-equipped Diesel and Spencer engines. Diesel and Spencer are both Thomas & Friends characters. We bought these engines a few weeks ago and waited for our local train store to receive and install DCC decoders into them. With DCC the little fellow can have multiple engines running around the same track and maintain independent control over each. Separate remote controls (called throttles) are available that will let us operate trains together on the same track. One person can control one train and another person can control another. Train speeds, sounds, coupling, braking, lights, and track switches may be controlled using DCC.

Max was so excited. Actually, so was I. I’ve never set up a DCC-operated train set before and therefore have limited knowledge of it and was elated to see that everything worked right on the first try. Max was overwhelmed. He danced around his little four-feet-by-four-feet layout until he was breathless and talking a mile a minute. He put his little cheek down on his train table and studied Diesel and Spencer as they chuffed along the tracks.

He was having such a good time. I tried to get him to stop and eat some lunch but he wouldn’t. I finally persuaded him to get into his highchair, which I put beside his train table, and to have a few Cheez-Its and Cheetos. As soon as I went to the bathroom, though, he got out of his highchair all on his own and was running around his train table with his chin hovering less than an inch above the tracks.

He wanted me to swap Diesel’s freight cars with Spencer’s passenger coaches (or maybe it was the other way around), but he couldn’t figure out how to tell me what he wanted. He melted down with arms a-flailing, which lead to a timeout, which led to his hitting me, which lead to his trains’ being in timeout for the rest of the day.

We went upstairs and watched a Fireman Sam video so we could settle down for his nap. Boy, was I ever glad to put him into his bed so I could finally get some peace and quiet.

An hour later Baybay awoke with a number-two. I ran out of wipes while cleaning him up, and I left him on his changing table with firm instructions not to move while I fetched more wipes. What do you think he did?

Of course he moved and soiled his pajamas and changing table. I finished cleaning him up the best I could and then put him into the shower and washed him with Dial soap. He was in a great mood and seemed to accept that he couldn’t play with his trains and to understand why they were in timeout.

Finally, Mama got home and took over for me. She took him to Bogan Park and then they went to Mimi and Grandpa’s. Baybay’s spending the night with Mimi and Grandpa tonight, and, believe it or not, I already miss him.

He melted down last night at bedtime and scratched and hit me. After being warned, he continued his aggressive behavior and Mama and I sent him to his bed, which Mama rolled into his room. That would’ve been the first time he’s slept in his room in a couple of years, but I felt like I was punishing myself, too, so we got up and Mama picked him up from his bed and brought him back to our bed. Next time we send him to his room for the night, that’s where he’ll stay, but since it was his first time being sent to his room, we let him stay in there for only about fifteen to twenty minutes.

So Mama and I are off to bed to watch All in the Family and look forward to getting our Baybay back in the morning.

Believe it or not, Max was up at midnight last night, and we all welcomed in the new year. With his being awake at such a late hour for a three-year-old, he slept until 9:30 this morning. Jaddie and I were so thankful for that. When we got up we headed to Granny’s for breakfast. Max was excited about going to Granny’s. He didn’t eat a whole lot, but had fun while he was there. When we left Granny’s we went Bogan Park to ride his “pie-cycle” (tricycle). On our way home from the park, Mimi called and asked if we’d stop by for a visit, so we did. Max didn’t want to leave, so he stayed with Mimi and Grandpa all afternoon. He’s even spending the night with them. Jaddie and I have been getting a lot of chores done, but we miss our lil’ buddy.

New Year’s Eve, Bogan Park

How did we spend the last day of 2011? Max and Grandpa went to Bojangles and brought us breakfast this morning. When Max came home he wanted to play with his trains, so we did for a while. Then we headed to Granny’s for a while. She kept Max while I ran an errand. When I came back we ate lunch together.

After leaving Granny’s, we went to Bogan Park. We had a lot of fun. The park was full of kids and Max enjoyed playing with them. Max slid, played ball, and built sandcastles. While climbing a rock wall at the park, Max said, “It’s like Stone Mountain.” I thought that was super-cute! We had so much fun and plan to return soon, maybe even tomorrow.

Max took his nap when he got home. He was excited because he knew we were going to go to a party at Mimi and Grandpa’s tonight, so he didn’t nap for long. When he got up he got ready and left for the party.

Max was a very good boy at the party tonight. He enjoyed wearing party hats and blowing horns. He also played with one of his trains, lead by engine Henry. He used salt and said, “It’s snowing!” It made a little mess but very creative.

When Max and Daddy left the party early, they came home and played with Max’s trains. Then they watched Hero of the Rails.

We’re all about to lie down and wait for the new year. 2012 hear we come!
