I snapped this photo from the beach on Labadee, a region of the island of Hispaniola, Haiti. The interesting element of this photo is contrast. There we are on the beach, walking on the sand, swimming in the warm Caribbean water, sunbathing, sand in our suits, and within an easy swimming distance a gigantic, luxurious, colossal, floating hotel awaits. Tenders were used to transport us to and from the ship.

Becky and I took the Hispaniola Coastal Adventure Tour while visiting the Haitian island. The tour was hardly an “adventure,” but we did learn about the history of Haiti and a little about the still-practiced Haitian art of voodoo.

Here’s a photo of Labadee’s beach that I took from a scenic overlook. Voyager’s guests are enjoying the sun, sand, and water before returning to the ship in time to shower and dress for dinner. Becky and I chose the late seating, so we had time for a nap before dinner.

I took this photo from the same scenic overlook as the above photo. Voyager looks positively divine compared to the underdeveloped region of Labadee. The dark horizontal line near Voyager’s bow represents the windows of the Windjammer Café. The Windjammer provides an excellent view and is where Becky and I enjoyed breakfast almost every morning of the cruise. The dark horizontal line toward the rear of the ship and up high represents the windows of the High Notes Lounge. Inside High Notes Voyager guests can see the main pool and hot tub area. Under High Notes’s windows there’s a jogging track, a real one with the cushioned feel.
